Services Offered

Individual Counseling

Individual Counseling is a joint process between myself and you. We work together to create common goals to inspire change or improve your quality of life.

Couples Counseling

Couples Counseling is between two people in an intimate relationship working with myself in an attempt to effectively address and hopefully resolve the communication problems, intimacy issues, and any other weaknesses in your relationship.

Family Counseling

Family Counseling seeks to reduce distress and conflict by improving the interactions between family members. While I often seek to have all family members (affected by the problem) in the room, but understand that may not always be possible. Together we can help your family adjust to or create new patterns so that everyone feels heard and validated.

Groups

Group Counseling is a process where a collection of individuals with similar issues or concerns meet as a group with myself, to discuss those issues, and to learn about and share information and solutions about those issues.

How We Help

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

A.R.T works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. A.R.T accomplishes this through the use of rapid brain stimulations comparable to eye movements that occur during dreaming.  A.R.T’s very specific and directive approach can achieve rapid recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been present for many years. A.R.T combines long respected, sound treatment practices with safe and effective methods validated by current scientific research studies conducted by the University of South Florida. Expressive Art Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy can incorporate writing, drama, dance, movement, painting, and/or music. I utilize expressive arts to help explore your responses, reactions, and insights through pictures, sounds, explorations, and encounters. You do not have to be artistic to benefit from this therapy.

Internal Family Systems

IFS is an evidence-based approach that assumes each individual possesses a variety of sub-personalities, or “parts,” and attempts to get to know each of these parts better to achieve healing.

There are three distinct types of parts in the IFS model:

  1. Managers are responsible for maintaining a functioning level of consciousness in daily life by warding off any unwanted or counterproductive interactions, emotions, or experiences resulting from external stimuli.

  2. Exiles are most often in a state of pain or trauma, which may result from childhood experiences. Managers and firefighters exile these parts and prevent them from reaching the conscious level so that proper functioning and preservation are maintained.

  3. Firefighters serve as a distraction to the mind when exiles break free from suppression. In order to protect the consciousness from feeling the pain of the exiles, firefighters prompt a person to act on impulse and engage in behaviors that are indulgent, addictive, and often times abusive. Firefighters may redirect attention to other areas such as sex, work, food, alcohol, or drugs.

Managers and firefighters play the role of Protectors, while exiles are parts that are protected.
